Two Hemispheres

Amanda Simmons presents a new collection of glass vessels and wall pieces inspired by the patterns and colours of the land and sky observed during a series of residencies in Australia. Also concerned with the land and landscape, Lise Bech works exclusively with Scottish willow to create traditional as well as contemporary pieces, much of it organically grown from her home and studio in Fife, tended and harvested (coppiced) by hand.

CraftScotland & Scottish Gallery SELECTS

This September, The Scottish Gallery and Craft Scotland are collaborating to present an exhibition which brings together a selection of makers based in Scotland, many of whom have either trained at Scottish art schools or have been represented by The Scottish Gallery for the span of their professional careers. Many disciplines are explored by makers specialising in ceramics, glass, sculpture, tapestry, jewellery and metalwork as we celebrate the wealth of talent that Scotland has to offer.

Other highlights

Due to the Covid19 pandemic many galleries have been limited in their work and opportunities for makers have been equally restricted. The following are a few highlights from lockdown:

● I was shortlisted in the international basketry competition run by The Worshipful Company of Basketmakers

● The basket I entered will be featured in Modern Rustic no 18 due out in November 2020

● Sworn to secrecy till broadcast I took part in a filming session, along with fellow basketmaker, Anna Liebmann, showing very famous actors how to make frame baskets (due to be broadcast after February, 2021)

Courses

While I enjoy passing on my basketry skills I now prefer to teach individuals or small groups of dedicated makers. This way the couse may be taylored to the students' needs and my stamina! These courses are arranged on an ad hoc basis when there is enough interest. If you would like to take part, please get in touch.
